The rules.

Competitive. Organized. Fun. A series inside the series, and only one team gets to call themselves champions.

Weeks

One opponent each week. You play every other team once.

5

Games a week

Five games against the same opponent. Every game counts.

35

Regular-season games

Every win, every loss and every point moves the standings.

1

Ryno Cup

All 8 teams advance to Championship Night. One champion.

Regular season

Every game counts.

Each week your team faces one opponent and plays them five times: five games, one matchup, one night. Even if your team goes 1–4, that one win counts toward your season record, and the four losses count too. There are no throwaway games.

Thursday nights at Pickle Zone, Holland, Ohio.

Game format & scoring

First to 11. Win by 2.

Regular season

Games are first to 11 and must be won by 2. At 14–14, the next point wins. Winning scores: 11–9, 12–10, 13–11, 14–12, and 14–14 → 15–14.

Playoffs

Also first to 11, win by 2, but there is no 14–14 sudden death. From 10–10, play continues until one team leads by 2: 12–10, 13–11, 14–12, 15–13 and beyond.

The flow of the night

Two hours. Five games.

  1. 5:00 PM–5:15 PMWarm-up
  2. 5:15 PM–5:30 PMGame 1
  3. 5:35 PM–5:50 PMGame 2
  4. 5:55 PM–6:10 PMGame 3
  5. 6:15 PM–6:30 PMGame 4
  6. 6:35 PM–6:50 PMGame 5

Each game has about a 20-minute window, including short breaks. A game that runs long may use the 10-minute adjustment period built into the schedule, but all five games must finish inside the 2-hour court window.

If time expires during Game 5

The team with the higher score at that moment wins Game 5. If Team A leads 9–7 when time expires, Team A wins Game 5, and if the teams had split the first four games, Team A wins the matchup 3–2.

Standings & seeding

Tiebreakers.

  1. Most game wins. Every individual game is a win or a loss. A 4–1 night adds four wins and one loss, and a 1–4 night still counts its one win. Teams are ranked by total games won.
  2. Head-to-head (two teams). When two teams have the same number of game wins, the team that won more of the five games in their regular-season matchup ranks higher. Five games always produce a winner, so this settles every two-way tie once the teams have played.
  3. Total points scored (three or more teams). When three or more teams are tied, the team that has scored more total points across all of its regular-season games ranks higher. If that leaves two teams level, their head-to-head matchup decides.
  4. Draw (three or more teams still tied). If three or more teams are still tied after total points, the RYNO Series draws for seeding. The table marks those teams "Draw" and lists them alphabetically until the admin enters the drawn order when locking seeds.

Current standings

Ryno Cup · Championship Night

All 8 teams. One night.

After the regular season, every team advances to Championship Night. The standings set the seeds and every match is best of 3: the first team to win two games advances.

The quarterfinals are #1 v #8, #4 v #5, #2 v #7 and #3 v #6. After every round the surviving teams are reseeded: the highest remaining seed plays the lowest. The semifinal winners play for the Cup and the semifinal losers play for 3rd place. The #1 seed chooses its quarterfinal time, so the running order can change.

The Ryno Cup

Substitute players

Three appearances.

Each team may use 3 substitute appearances during the regular season: at most 2 for one player and the rest for the other, so all 3 can never cover the same player.

Both players may use a substitute on the same night only for legitimate reasons such as illness, travel, or a shared travel commitment, and that counts as 2 of the team's appearances. Substitutes are not for rest or competitive advantage.

Tournament play: no substitutes

Everyone who plays on Championship Night must be on the team's original roster.

Injury & extended absence

If a player is expected to miss several weeks through injury or illness, the team can request an extended-absence exception. Requests are reviewed case by case, are separate from the normal substitute appearances, and the RYNO Series administration decides the solution, including whether a replacement may play for the rest of the season and, when appropriate, the playoffs.

Eligibility

40+ mixed doubles.

Age

Every player must be 40 or older, or the team's combined age must be 75 or more. 42 + 41 = 83 ✓ · 40 + 39 = 79 ✓ · 38 + 37 = 75 ✓ · 39 + 35 = 74 ✗

DUPR

Designed for players in the 3.5–4.5 range. No individual may be rated above 5.0, and a team with a player above 4.5 needs a combined DUPR of 7.5–9.5. 3.8 + 4.2 = 8.0 ✓ · 4.7 + 3.9 = 8.6 ✓ · 5.1 + 4.0 ✗ (individual too high) · 5.0 + 4.6 = 9.6 ✗ (combined too high).

Players without an established DUPR may still play if their experience and skill fit the Series; the administration approves them based on playing history.

Teams of two

Mixed doubles: one male and one female player. Sign up individually and list your partner.
